If the creator has chosen to make the challenge public, the challenge can be shared on other social networks or by email by posting the URL. The URL looks something like this: http://www.endomondo.com/challenges/14737163 and can be found by browsing to the challenge on www.endomondo.com.
Users have the option to browse through public challenges on www.endomondo.com/challenges. There, the challenges are ranked by number of participants. The same goes for browsing challenges in the app (challenge > explore) - they’re ranked by popularity.
Challenge Update Time
The challenges are updated instantly after the workout is done. For big challenges with many participants it can take 2-3 minutes for your workout to be included in the challenge.
Cheating in Challenges
We automatically exclude all workouts that are clearly wrong, such as workouts that break world records or in other ways are unrealistic (the workout validation feature was implemented of September 20th 2012).
The challenge creator can and is allowed to remove users from a challenge.
Endomondo staff will not interfere with user created challenges as long as they follow the Endomondo Terms and Conditions.
Featured challenges by Endomondo
In all the featured challenges with prizes which were created by Endomondo, all the top performers are checked on a regular basis throughout the challenges. Any doubtful workouts will be excluded and, if a user is clearly cheating, the user will be excluded from the challenge and not given the option to join future challenges.
To ensure fair play in the featured challenges by Endomondo, we will also check all the workouts of the winners. If we find any false or doubtful workouts, we will find a new winner.
Please see our challenges guidelines here.
Start and End Time on Challenges
The default start date is the current date. The default end-date is one month from start date. The max duration at creation is end of current year + one year. If you want to have a challenge lasting longer than that, you have to edit the end-date before the current end date is reached. You cannot extend or change a challenge after it has ended. You have to create a new challenge instead. The challenge start and end time will always be according to the challenge creators’ time zone.
All workouts done by participants in the challenge, within the time period specified by the challenge creator, will automatically count in the challenge (if they are tracked as a valid sport).
If a workout is finished after the end time, it will not count in the challenge. For example: a workout that starts 20 minutes before the end time on the last day of the challenge and ends 5 minutes after the end time will consequently not count in the challenge.
NOTE: If you are tracking your workouts without data connection or with a smartwatch, please make sure that your workout is uploaded to our website before the end of the challenge, otherwise if it is uploaded once the challenge has finished it will not be added to the challenge.
Please first make sure that your workout meets the criteria of the challenge - i.e. both has the right sport and note that the reason your workout is not included in a challenge can be that it's not the right sport or does not meet other criteria of the challenge. You can see where to find the criteria for the challenge in the image below:
Workouts that beat world records are automatically marked as "not included in statistics" by the Endomondo software. This can happen for workouts which have had a GPS glitch, but also if a cycling workout is imported from Garmin as a running workout. To correct this, browse to the workout on www.endomondo.com, hit the arrow symbol located above the map (˅), choose Edit and tick the box 'Include in Statistics', then hit update. If your workout had the wrong sport in the import, this is also were you correct the sport. If one of your workouts has been excluded by the validation filter, it will show like in the image below on www.endomondo.com.
If it shows like that, you have to click “Edit” and check the “Include in Statistics” box to have the workout included in the challenge. See below how to do that. Also remember to change the sport from running to cycling if that was the reason for the exclusion.
If you take part in one of the official Endomondo Challenges and one of your workouts has been excluded by the Endomondo admins, it will look like this on your profile:
Please note that Endomondo staff will not interfere with user created challenges as long as they follow the Endomondo Terms and Conditions. If the workout has been excluded by Endomondo staff it can't be reverted.
Excluded Garmin/Timex workouts
If you are using a Garmin/Timex device or file import, valid workouts can be excluded by error. GPS glitches can also cause exclusion from statistics.
You especially need to be aware if you are using a Garmin/Timex running device to track other sports (e.g cycling), because the workout then will be tested against the running validation filter.
