Answer: Endomondo uses GPS to track workouts, whereas other applications such as 'Maps' can place your location on a map using cellular networks or Wi-Fi to estimate your location on a map. Only GPS generates location co-ordinates (Longitude and Latitude) which Endomondo uses to trace the route of your workout and calculate the distance of your track, this cannot be done with location estimates using cellular networks and/or Wi-Fi.
Answer: The Endomondo application depends on your devices GPS being turned on and the aforementioned settings and conditions. The quality and the time it takes to get a GPS signal is solely dependent on your device and it's hardware.
Answer: There are four stages (colors) to define the status of the GPS connection.
|Red = No signal||Yellow = Searching||Orange = GPS signal (Less than 5 satellites connected)||Green = Good GPS signal (More than 5 satellites connected)|
Answer: The GPS hardware in the phones can differ from phone to phone. Some phones are better at picking up the satellite signals and pinpointing the actual position and are therefore, more accurate than others. It is always possible that wrong track points will be picked up by the phone. To minimize the error margin, we filter all track points to remove as many errors as possible. In general, distance tracked by GPS should only vary within 0-2% if there is a good satellite signal.
Answer: The battery consumption varies a lot from phone to phone and it depends on how many other applications and services you are using at the same time. For instance, it often helps significantly to turn off Bluetooth, WiFi and other services if you are not using them.
Most new phones can track with the GPS on for 4-6 hours before recharging, whereas the best phones can track for up to 12 hours before recharging. A battery that has been used a lot will often drain faster, so it might help to get a new battery.
